Language diversity is a fundamental part of the European diversity. It questions both the possibility of unity in diversity and the link between the various levels of identity and identification (local, regional, national, European, global). Is language diversity a strength for Europe or does it further weaken its cohesion? And do we even need minority languages? These questions will be discussed at length during the activity, which will be a way to involve young people and to address the EU leaders.
The workshop will be organised as a panel discussion on the topic of minority languages. Different panelists will share their inputs and explain why protecting language diversity is an environmental issue. After this first part as a panel discussion, the discussion will be opened to the floor to discuss concrete steps to protect language diversity.
This topic is at the core of TEJO’s policy advocacy. The workshop would also be a way to present our ideas, to confront them to the input of other stakeholders and to potentially create a wish to strengthen cooperation between youth organisations.

We aim to raise awareness on the issue of the endangered language diversity in Europe and to discuss possible concrete solutions as much as the relevant implementation level. The discussion will be focused on concrete steps towards protecting the European language diversity.

Is language diversity a strength for Europe or does it further weaken its cohesion? Do we even need minority languages? Discuss these questions with experts and youth activists!
We need to invest more in Europe’s youth to ensure a brighter, more peaceful and more active future for our continent! Our activities promote equality and multilingualism and are organised by youth for youth.
